All participants in LBAA programs complete both pre-
and post- assessments. For our year long ACE After-school program, the students
complete a pre-, mid- and post-assessment. Based on these assessments we have
been able to gather the following information on the youth participating in our
programs.
Team Sports
- 80% of our students felt a stronger connection to their community due to the
program
- 91%
of the students have been encouraged to try harder in school most or all of the
time
- 97% of the students indicated that they
find the sports program "fun" most or all of the time
- 97% enjoyed coming to the practices and
games most or all of the time
- 100% felt that their coaches made them
feel important most or all of the time.

Story behind the Trendline:
- The participation rate has generally been increasing at a modest level
since the inception of LBAA
- We note that our FY06 participation level was less than satisfactory due
to the performance of our previous Executive Director, but picked back up
significantly in FY07 after hiring a Program Director on only a part-time
status.
- Funding to address all of the organization’s needs has been a challenge
over the past four years. We need to diversify our funding, and continue to
demonstrate results in the community to continue County Government funding.
- Recruiting ample volunteer coaches has also been a challenge due to the
time commitment needed to help provide rides for participants. Two to three
volunteer coaches are needed for each sports team.

and Development Corporation (CPDC) located in the Park Montgomery Apartment
Building, Housing Opportunities Commission, Tanglewood Apartments, MCPS staff
– Broad Acres Elementary, Rolling Terrace Elementary, Oakview Elementary, Long
Branch Business League, County Government, Private donors
FY10 Action Plan:
- Work with partners to recruit neighborhood participants two months before
every sports season
- Start recruiting volunteer coaches two months before every sports season
- Aggressively search for needed funds to pay league fees and other
costs through private donations, sponsorships as outlined on the website, and
other grant opportunities
